SiriusXM Announces Partnership with CNN for New Radio Channel
Satellite radio giant SiriusXM is laying off 475 people, or about 8% of its workforce, as part of a broad restructuring. The announcement was made on Monday, with SiriusXM SIRI saying it was part of a "strategic" move to reduce costs and improve profitability.
SiriusXM and CNN also announced the launch of CNN Originals, a new channel showcasing the premier non-fiction series from CNN and HLN. The channel will be available to SiriusXM subscribers on channel 129 starting in March.
In addition, SiriusXM Pandora has announced a new partnership with cable news channel CNN to develop a new satellite and streaming radio channel focused on the networks. The channel will feature live coverage of breaking news, as well as in-depth analysis and commentary from CNN's team of experts.
Chris Cuomo will be ending his daily SiriusXM radio show, he said on Monday. "The way my time ended at CNN was hard," Cuomo said. "While I have a thick skin, I also have a family."
CNN and Howard Stern have announced that The Howard Stern Show will return for five more years.
